They didn't disable the e-brake. They disabled Volvo's emergency collision avoidance system. No doubt because they didn't want to let it sit there autonomously on their system, throwing up spurious life-saving measures and stuff. As a result they have quality data indicating an inability to reliably classify pedestrians on the roadway. Also a dead bicyclist.
What possible explanation could they have for disabling the E brake?!
such great system wowAccording to Uber, emergency braking maneuvers are not enabled while the vehicle is under computer control, to reduce the potential for erratic vehicle behavior. The vehicle operator is relied on to intervene and take action. The system is not designed to alert the operator.
