This is a FUCKING TERRIBLE idea. Talk to anyone dealing with the Youtube Heroes debacle, or, oh, I dunno, ANY OTHER SITE THAT ALLOWS RANDOMS TO FLAG CONTENT. Here is what is going to happen. Churches are going to hold parties where "Left-Leaning" libruhl media will be flagged and challenged. Colleges will offer report-a-thons for school credit to frame a specific narrative. Every lobbyist, think tank, whack-job group with an agenda and a following will descend on this idea and fuck it. Having watched the internet mature, for better or worse, anytime you let the "internet public" report in this manner it turns into a fucking shitshow. The big "influences" and their hangers-on will game the system and make it into an echo chamber. Terrible fucking idea. Something like this had to be curated with people who will face repercussions for injecting an agenda.
Oh. I wouldn’t worry. It’s just an Onion article. Elon Musk is a genius at some stuff, so he must be a genius at everything. Seriously, I agree with you. The idea will fly like a lead balloon. Or, as my Dad used to say, “That’s as useful as tits on a bull.”
Just like how on reddit the combined wisdom of the public causes the most intelligent and well considered content to rise to the top, and humanity through its combined sincere efforts discerns the wisest path towards the future. Except with higher stakes, and run by an egotistical billionaire.
If the ratings work poorly or is proven to be not credible it won't be taken very seriously, I'm concerned by how much backlash their has been from almost every news source, the threat of scrutiny shouldn't be so intimidating. To assume that a 3rd party rating website for new sources will have a massive impact considering the average person maintains almost unwavering faith in a handful of news sources is unrealistic. To compare media outlets and yelp is a little ridiculous as well.
Yeah that's one of the things that I don't fully understand. Pravda was one of the state media outlets in the USSR. Its name means "truth" in Russian, but there was a saying in Russia under Communism that v pravdye nyet pravdy ("in Truth there's no truth").
