    5. Summit at least one mountain in the Pacific Northwest, and start mountaineering.

What are you considering mountains? Are you talking about mountains or mountains.

    I blame rei.

They say you should never go grocery shopping while hungry. That doesn't work at REI because I never have enough gear. I try to make a list and mostly stick to it.

I'm signed up for three half marathons and will probably do at least one more. My best time so far is 1:55:45 on a kind of warm, kind of hilly course. I think I could break 1:50 on more ideal conditions. I'm not sure if that's a goal or not.

I haven't decided if I'll do a marathon in 2018. The problem is prime marathon season is also prime hiking season. I've ordered the Appalachian Mountain Club's guide to the White Mountains, and I'm thinking about trying to complete the Northeast 111. I'm also thinking about trying to work on finishing the Adirondack 46 in the winter; I have 11 winter summits so far. If I did a marathon, it would probably be Milwaukee Lakefront.

I guess my goal is to do something, whether a marathon or some nice hiking. Also either buy a house or save a ton of money for a house.

Careful there, pardner.

That's actually why I ask. I thought ButterflyEffect had already been up mountains (meaning ~8000' ones). Rainer and also stuff like Adams and Baker are also mountains but are more mountainy and what I meant by mountains.

You are severely interfering with my self-righteous dudgeon.

There's a lot to choose from.

What I can tell you is the Mount Saint Helen's should be sometime next month, and I'll be saving Mount Rainier for 2019. Hoping to spend a lot of time above 8,000 ft, preferably close to 10,000 ft in 2018.

Very nice! Baker or Adams is sort of on my to-do list. A number of professional guides go to them and don't require any technical experience. I'd like to get to those altitudes myself to see how I cope with higher altitudes. 4000-5000' just doesn't see much difference in oxygen compared to home (1000'). Having a guide would take away my uncertainty in a new area.

The weather on Mount Saint Helen's looks amazing tomorrow! Then a pretty strong front at the end of the week. Looks like a 6000' ascent in six miles from Peakbagger ascents? I'd love to hear a trip report from it. A tree line 2500' below the summit is totally foreign to me, too. It's probably 700' on Marcy.

Sound like some wonderful plans.
