- This past weekend, I spoke or messaged with more than a dozen people—including a major political figure in the state—who told me that they had heard, over the years, that Moore had been banned from the mall because he repeatedly badgered teen-age girls. Some say that they heard this at the time, others in the years since. These people include five members of the local legal community, two cops who worked in the town, several people who hung out at the mall in the early eighties, and a number of former mall employees. (A request for comment from the Moore campaign was not answered.) Several of them asked that I leave their names out of this piece. The stories that they say they’ve heard for years have been swirling online in the days since the Post published its report. “Sources tell me Moore was actually banned from the Gadsden Mall and the YMCA for his inappropriate behavior of soliciting sex from young girls,” the independent Alabama journalist Glynn Wilson wrote on his Web site on Sunday. (Wilson declined to divulge his sources.) Teresa Jones, a deputy district attorney for Etowah County in the early eighties, told CNN last week that “it was common knowledge that Roy dated high-school girls.” Jones told me that she couldn’t confirm the alleged mall banning, but said, “It’s a rumor I’ve heard for years.”
No shade on Alabama but...
No you know what? Fuck that. The fact that this sort of thing was A-OK in Alabama and only became a problem when the chucklefuck sought federal office is a goddamn black eye that fuckin' Alabama deserves.
Alabama deserves the shit they're getting for this. My family has friends who know Roy Moore personally. Their Facebook profiles feature poorly cropped "I stand with Judge Roy Moore" photos. They say things like, They say things like, The South is fucked. The Republicans fucked it. And they're all so piously self-deluded that they'll elect an averred ephebophile, an alleged pedophile because they just really can't be fucked enough to see any better option."Accusations are not proof. Otherwise, Jesus was a criminal because He was accused of being one. "A wicked ear gives heed to lying lips.'"
That's a quote from Proverbs 17:4 for those of us who don't have bespoke scripture references to justify burying our fucking heads in the sand."Being anxious to find fault in a man who stands for biblical principle & believing salacious allegations about him is creepy to me."
As if distrusting this religiously pathological pseudo-politician is somehow creepier than allegedly molesting girls.
Alabama is another one of those places that just defy easy classification. On one hand, Huntsville is the home of the motherfuckin' NASA's Marshall Spaceflight Center, where, quite simply, some of the smartest people in the world work on cutting edge spacey sciency shit. And the smart people aren't just imported from elsewhere. I mean, Destin, of Smarter Every Day is a local Alabaman, raised in Alabama, and still lives and works there - in science and engineering - and has been featured by President Barack Obama as a champion for science education in America! But then ... well, yeah. There's everyone else. Including my relatives, who are just dumb as shit, gullible, and believe every word out of Alex Jones' mouth. Fuck Alabama... except Huntsville... I guess...
Naw, Fuck that place. You know the difference between Yemen and Alabama? Jesus. Alabama is a boat anchor on the US economy and our society, its a regressive Stone-Age society that is playing pretend with the 21st Century. The only reason Alabama exists is because we taxpayers funnel billions of federal dollars into that shithole. Alabama is one of those places that exist as a warning to others; a place that exists so states like Kentucky and Mississippi can say "At least we ain't Alabama!"No shade on Alabama but...
No more R's no more D's. Kick the bums out. I feel like I'm having some kind of psychotic break, but I am incapable of caring about these things anymore, it seems. I can get as infuriated as I want, as frustrated as I am capable, and nothing will change. I could have voted Hilldawg and campaigned for her and my state still would have went Red because of the clusterfuck that is the DNC, and all that would have changed is that people with D's next to their name would like me a bit more. Criminals are no longer punished if they have managed to put enough layers of obfuscation and red tape in the way of prosecutors/law enforcement. Or better yet, in the case of HSBC, they are simply more powerful than the government, and the government admits it. I know that this is part of the big nefarious goal by those who would see western democracies destabilized. I am watching it happen to me a day at a time, and I still can't make myself give a shit.
You're not having a psychotic break, you're having fatigue. That's what pushed me from canvassing for John Kerry to ignoring politics until Obama's second term. You have no one to root for, you have everyone to root against and there's no upshot to investing your energy in hating into a system you cannot change. It's okay. been there. As I see it, you're making progress - six months ago, you were berating everyone else for being losers that think this stuff matters. At least now you're turning inwards. There will come a time when you have someone to root for and once you're ready, it won't take much. I mean, i went door-to-door for John Fucking Kerry.
You sure about that? In my life I've seen Ross Perot mount a successful spoiler campaign, seen Ralph Nader give Florida to Bush, and watched a substantial portion of Utah vote for Evan McMullin. Before my life there was Strom Thurmond and the Dixiecrats, who literally came into being because LBJ argued that blacks were people, too. The Democrats didn't run Hillary in 2008 because Obama was a better candidate. They ran Hillary in 2016 because their alternative was a literal socialist. If there's one takeaway for the Democratic Party in 2017, it's that they would have been better off running a literal socialist than Hillary Clinton. That's gonna take a while to process but at the end of the day, politicians wanna win. it's early days. Let's check back in a couple years, shall we?
