I've also been developing a fetishism for all things synthesizer

welcome to the club... it's a lonely, expensive wasteland of forgotten dreams...

as a DIY kit, the thing is really affordable.

Holy shnikeys batman... that is SO MUCH SOLDERING. I am both horrified and a little turned on... but if you don't want to get the gun out... and don't want to buy all of the other bits separately:

    The total price is $3749

Holy crap I missed that. Also they haven't published a BOM yet, despite the fact that they claim they stopped taking preorders four months ago. And it uses reissued Curtiss 3340s - sixteen of them, at $15 or so ea. And it uses fifty-nine V2164 VCAs at $5 ea.

So that's $520 worth of ICs alone... but they're making you pay a thousand dollars for a dozen nearly-empty through-hole circuitboards.

Dunno, man. This just looks more and more shady.

I didn't realize the DIY kit came without the components included. That makes it a lot tougher and a lot pricier. Plus their price on the page is deceptive. The full price is paid once it ships :/

agreed... their pricing scheme is pretty dang deceptive.
