Woah woah woah. Laptops using smartphone-level processors? Sounds amazing! Lighter, thinner laptops with lower power consumption and similar performance? Any student would be praying on whoever delivers on the promise, assuming similar or lower price tag.

I know I would. Pretty sure Dota 2 would run on something like that, easy. Beyond that and watching films, what do I even need?

No idea why is it the first time I'm hearing about such a thing.

The Pinebook is cool, but not out of the nerd toy stage yet.

For $99? It's definitely a cool thing. My student-level laptop is about $500 total, including new RAM and an SSD. It weighs about as much, is about as big and has about the same default CPU/RAM performance.

Huh.

I was thinking of buying a Chromebook back when I was looking for the laptop, exactly because it was light and performant. No luck buying one in Russia: the ones sold locally were older models. I was about to go on an elaborate scheme to order a laptop to a US address and ship it to Russia using third-party mail service that specialized in sending US-only stuff to Russia, while preparing the stickers for the keyboard layout and other localization stuff...

Common sense prevailed, thankfully. Came up cheaper as a result, too.
