The specification of the boat looks well thought out, not just some hail mary jury rig. I've done offshore sailing before but nothing like an Atlantic crossing. It's a real experience being out of sight of land with no reference points and only the sound of the sea. On your own in a boat that small with what sounds like very uncomfortable sleeping arrangements will be an epic test. Good luck to him.
