Ranch dressing isn't just for salads. Have you ever tried ranch dressing with Pizza, as a topping on your burger in lieu of ketchup? I'm telling you, Ranch dressing is phenomenal stuff. At Hidden Valley, we have perfected the flavor profile of Ranch dressing. Go to http://salad.com to learn more.

Also, please badge me and me me a hubskier. I promise, I'll be good.

Sure, just wanted to test this out. I wonder, is there a better word than "promote?" Can anyone think of one?

dublinben  ·  2588 days ago  ·  link  ·

I like "vouch." It's used on Hacker News for a similar feature.

Vouch isn't bad, especially if there is tracking of who is granting the hubwheels. There isn't currently.

If it's just another line in the database, it can't hurt to keep track of. It may come in handy with anti-spam efforts if this ever becomes a problem.

Celebrate, sponsor, highlight?

Also, promoting is a way for those without badges to 'unlock' other accounts? As in, once you have an unlocked account, you can promote any newcomers without restriction?

Yes, that's the case. However, I think we are going to limit to once per day for each user.

Vouch and Sponsor? They seem effective to me,, but are the connotations correct? Are we creating a new-age Fremasonry or The Loyal Order of Water Buffalo? (For those Flintstones fans).

To me "highlight" seems closer, not there yet, but is there a way to communicate "This account has demonstrated they are here to add more than they take, or not spam the crap out of us all?"

Of the connotations that can be relayed, I found 'highlight' as the least personable. To escape from guessing intentions in diction, I'm more a fan of 'circledot' or 'wheel' or 'some hubski-esque word without meaning'. Keeps it central to the site and no room for interpretation.... you just circledot them, take know?

EDIT: This sound weird, but the more I think about it, why not 'orange'? That's what we all see as our own posts/comments.
