The National Air Force Museum is not too cool for me. It's at the top of my list for the next time I need to be in Dayton. It's been there for years, I just haven't had a need to be in Dayton. B-70? B-36? Yes please. Except I always end up sad in air museums. So many people died not even in combat. I have a spreadsheet where I tried to compile Cold War deaths. One event, a pilot died in a crash. Then the plane carrying mourners to his funeral crashed, killing more.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your pictures and write-up. I bet a car museum wouldn't make me so sad.

There are tons of car museums across the country. Chances are if you travel anywhere, there's probably one on the way. One of the really cool things about them, and this includes museums of other man made objects such as aircraft and train museums, is that the objects you're looking at often have a deeper, richer history than at first glance. So many of these things are shaped by history and politics. So many of them involved countless man hours of research, development, and construction. They're things that, by being created and by existing, have touched the lives of so many people and have helped to shape the world into what it is today.

Sometimes getting lost in thought about it is enough to leave you in awe long after you've left the museum and it makes you look at the things in your own life in a whole new light.
