Dude. LA Auto Show 2016. So much offputting design. It was frickin' FugglyFest.

Oh yeah, I'm right there with you. Subaru appears to be ripping off Ford with the Viziv-7 and the C-HR made my eyes bleed. I kind of like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, though. I'm rooting for them to make a comeback.

kleinbl00  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

I really wanted to like the C-HR. And then they (A) gave it a pusillanimous mill (B) released it in the US without AWD.

What the actual fuck.

Trombone  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

I'd imagine that they're targeting the Kia Soul/Nissan Juke crowd with it, so it gets a "city car" powertrain. Still sinful as hell.

COMES WITH A FUCKING TURBO AND AWD IN EUROPE THO

Trombone  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

Perhaps they were too lazy to square the goodies with US regs. I honestly don't know.

Lexus aside, cause screw anyone else I think they look good, the oversized grill trend needs to DIE. The Genesis concept you keep posting? Looks like ass. The Yaris iA (formerly Scion iA), looks like a mutant fish. Even the Ford Focus and Fiesta, which are on the more conservative end of the spectrum, are still too large. On and on it goes.

kleinbl00  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

My wife mistakenly referred to it as a Yarpus when we test drove one. It has been a Yarpus to me ever since. iA! iA! Yarpus Cthagn!

I am firmly of the opinion that the best grille is no grille. Best BMW:

Best Fiat:

Best Lancia:

Best Pontiac:

Best Toyota:

Ahhahahahapsych to every rule there is an exception.

You very much love European styling, don't you?

kleinbl00  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

Well, I can name more than a few European designers. American? Harley Earl. Japanese? I know that the guy who designed the Juke is the same one that designed the Vehicross.

Even the AC Cobra is an overblown British design.

Google Image Search "gandini" or "pininfarina" or "italdesign" or "giugiaro." Yeah, sure. Harley Earl. Whatevs.

The Lexus lineup right now makes me think of Cylons.

You should be pleased with Chevy, they're one of the few manufacturers right now that's not trying to make Hoover-cars.

user-inactivated  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

Lexus current lineup is one of those where they don't look too good in photos, but in person, they look really good. Chevy's current lineup, especially the Impala, Malibu, and the 2nd gen Cruze look really good. In fact, the difference between the first and second gen Cruze are night and day.

Trombone  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

You'll hear no argument from me. I think Chevy is actually one of the most interesting companies at the moment, due to the Camaro/Corvette plus the Bolt/Volt.

kleinbl00  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

Is that an Impala? I drove one of those a few weeks ago. I was favorably impressed.

Fuck. Impalas. Cadillacs. I'm turning into an old person.

The current crop of Lexus is not Cylon, it's cetacean. They look like that because their diet is mostly krill.

Fuck. Impalas. Cadillacs. I'm turning into an old person.

resistance is futile

user-inactivated  ·  2640 days ago  ·  link  ·

Shit. Some days I wish I was driving a Buick.

kleinbl00  ·  2640 days ago  ·  link  ·

I did that when I was 16. 0/10 WOULD NOT DO AGAIN

user-inactivated  ·  2640 days ago  ·  link  ·

Well, to be fair, there's a pretty good chance today's Buicks are maybe a step or two ahead of what was offered 20 years ago.

kleinbl00  ·  2640 days ago  ·  link  ·

20 years ago I was driving a 20 year old buick.

There's a pretty good chance today's Ikeas are a step or two ahead of that buick. Fuckin' front main seal was made out of wax-impregnated rope.

Piece of shit.

Good American Malaise era cars were few and far between.

Trombone  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

Close, it's a Malibu. As the previous owner of a Pontiac Sunfire and the current owner of a Chevy Sonic, I can definitely say GM has stepped up their game and I'm not surprised you liked it.

Shot in the dark, but what about Mazda? I had a rental Mazda in Canada once and while and was pleasantly surprised.

kleinbl00  ·  2641 days ago  ·  link  ·

Drove a Mazda 3 for two weeks. It was a fine little car. it just wasn't "fuck yeah I'm spending twenty grand on a Mazda station wagon!" little car.

I believe this is the problem the automakers are dealing with from millennials on all sides: "you want HOW MUCH? for THAT?" And if you don't need to drive that much, I mean, shit. $350/mo is a lot of Lyft.
