I follow a few blogs as well, mainly Moogly and Cre8tioncrochet.com Crochet. Edit: it's ok to have mistakes in your work. I call them 'proof of being handmade.' The best part of messing up in crochet as opposed to knitting is that frogging is much easier.
I still need to find it a pot to live in, so it can hang out with my real plants. I started out with a pattern from ravelry but the pattern got weird so I winged part of it. The flower from the pattern was just a flat five-petaled thing that I thought I could improve on so I used the 'wiggle crochet' technique to make what I think looks a bit more like a flower that belongs on a cactus.
