CCD astro images really kicked in with modified Web cams in about, oh, 1995 or so when Phillis produces a mass market USB 1(!) powered web cam that had screws on the front. People CNC milled adapters so that they fit into the eyepiece of a telescope and used those to image the moon and bright planets. They look like this and there are still some folks using them. The first web cam that most agree on is the coffee pot camera at MIT in 1991.
Did not see a troll as much as an expanding on ancient history!
