Pretty sure I've built one in 1/72nd scale.

pics?

...you don't really think I still have scale models from my teenaged years, do you ?

coffeesp00ns  ·  2767 days ago  ·  link  ·

dawg, I've learned to never underestimate you. You could tell me about your underwater basketweaving experiences and i'd say "... yeah i believe it."

There may still be a Marder IFV back in New Mexico somewhere. It won some prizes. You can paint the pupils on a 1/35th scale tank commander, but giving him the expression you intended is another challenge entirely.

I still do. Shit. I even have sprues with spare parts lying around.

See my buddy has a garage full, but he never really finishes anything.

Although he's been working on the north cormorant for more than 20 years now. I think none of the plastic is left; it's all photoetched brass at this point.

::Whistles:: That's gotta be absolute hell to paint.

Hasn't gotten that far yet. But you airbrush it, duh.

I was damn good with an airbrush.

Holy shit. You can still buy a Badger 150. I got mine when I was ten.

I honestly have never been good enough to justify an airbrush. But I do watch YouTube tutorials. Those guys work magic.

You could get good in a couple weeks. Don't waste your time with a single action - that's most people's mistake.

I've been tempted a few times to give it a shot. Models and miniature figures gets to be an expensive hobby quick though. Fortunately I have a lot of old models in storage, so I have a ton I could practice on.

Speaking of hobbies, I haven't done any recently but decoupage is actually a load of fun. I also have about three file folders full of vintage ads too, which is a bonus. There are a bunch of duplicates so I'm keeping an eye out for people who might appreciate them so I can give them some.

I used to have a bunch of spare bass strings lying around (different brands, etc). Still would, but I sold them to undergrads while at my MMus in exchange for beer.

user-inactivated  ·  2767 days ago  ·  link  ·

Did you tell them they sound better because they're vintage?

coffeesp00ns  ·  2767 days ago  ·  link  ·

in fact there's an online used market for Thomastik Infeld Spirocore bass strings.

Some guys like them new and zingy, but can't stand them after 6 months.

Some guys can't stand the six month break in period, and buy them off those guys to use for a year or two.

Some guys can't stand the 2.5 year break in period, and buy them off those guys.

And so on. I knew a guy who had 20 year old spirocores on his bass, and said they got better with age - "Like Black Socks".

You guys get real particular about your sounds, don't you?

Edit: Not that it's bad. It's just amazing the variation in preferences there are.

coffeesp00ns  ·  2767 days ago  ·  link  ·

nah, but new upright bass strings are like 250 bucks a set so I was giving them a sick deal for a 12 pack.
