The article states that the pill's function is more about retaining a high quality of life into old age rather than lengthening life. I am skeptical of the magnitude of the effect this pill will have compared to other methods of achieving this: Nicotinamide Riboside, one of the two touted ingredients, is just a form of vitamin B3. The other one is a compound apparently similar to Resverartol that is found in blueberries. I'm sure these compounds are great for aging and no doubt they'll help you age more gracefully and be healthier as you age. But there are a lot of other things that do this, too. The king of which is resistance training. Here are some research-backed benefits for resistance training into old age, in no particular order: • Reverses gene expression associated with aging • Increases muscular ATP and glycogen • Improves mitochondrial health • Improves cognition • Improves memory • Improves quality of sleep • Reduces anxiety • Increases testosterone secretion • Increases HGH secretion • Decreases risk of diabetes • Decreases risk of cancer • Increases bone density • Decreases risk of falls • Prevents aging-associated muscle loss • Reduces chronic fatigue In my uneducated opinion, someone who lifts weights through old age will and doesn't take this pill will fare better than someone who takes this pill and is mostly sedentary. But maybe someone who does both will fare even better.
I think the hype around this company has more to do with how much people want to have a solution like this, than this actually being a good solution. It's a dietary supplement of things that are already in common foods, and that you can already buy separately. I've seen a couple articles on this company now, and they always leave me scratching my head. I guess if you're already a famous scientist, people care more. Too bad for us that we only have hacks :) We'd be in every news publication by now if we had some name cred.
