My wife will not stop listening to Vampire Weekends album "Modern Vampires.." -I love the album but I'm getting sick of it. Quickly.
Kind of my "shit sucks" anthem. They recorded this on a laptop while Benjamin was in the hospital dying of lymphoma. So... inspiring, but also ironic. Frustration going through my head Turn off the TV set Take some drugs so I can forget I, I want life I want my life I want my life I want my life It really sucks It really sucks I got knocked down but I'll get up I got knocked down but I'll get up I got knocked down I got knocked down On the plus side, I need only deal with LA, not t-cell blastic lymphoma.Sitting in a hospital bed
rediscovering a gal whose music i love dearly. Anais Mitchell is getting attention again for her album Hadestown which she made into a full stage show with the help of Richard Rodgers Production Award and it was just extended through this weekend in New York. wanted to go see it but the costs were too much for me to go see it :( Lin Manuel Miranda and Stephen Sondheim have both sung its praises and I hope it gets extended or renewed for another season so I can go see it the song i'm including isn't from the show but i think it captures her spirit very well
This past week, after hearing the rumor of a possible new Tool album coming out, I've been listening to all the old Tool albums. So I gots nothing new to share this week. 😥
Some of these have been really good: http://www.npr.org/2016/06/27/482934244/npr-musics-30-favorite-albums-of-2016-so-far
About halfway through. That Big Thief album is reaaally good, at least the parts I could listen to free on bandcamp https://bigthief.bandcamp.com/releases Also Transport, the techno thing.
Heya! This week I've been into weird hip-hop and classic rock. I just discovered Gerry Rafferty and I can't recommend him more.
What good timing! A band I discovered at a New Year's Show, Indianola, just got a single on Spotify. I've made a post about the whole thing. Heavily blues-inspired rock (the lead guy is from Jackson, Mississippi originally). But plenty of industrial, as usual. My go-to when working lately has been Abducted by Sharks. The link is to a YouTube playlist of everything they've released so far. Official site is here. I just discovered the Argentinian band Bloque del Sur ("Southern Block"), which adds a bit of reggaeton to the usual industrial/EBM. Neat old-school feel, like something out of the '90s with better production values.
