Very cool, though I feel their demo video for IPFS needs some work, but it does do a good job showing what's possible with it. ipfs.pics looks like just what is needed to increase use of it, though to be competitive I hope they support webm too. I'll have to look more into it, but I wonder if a RPi could be used as a small ipfs server, I feel it should... As for default suggest host? Yes definitely, my understanding is this would make it independent of any one specific host, as the file hash could be used under other hosts using ipfs, so if ipfs.pics ever goes down we could start our own :D
I've got it running on my Pi 2 (and my laptop) and it runs fine. I usually have to restart it every few days because of high cpu usage. Honestly right now there's not much to do with it (except say "cool!") that a normal server doesn't do much better. It's fun to play around with but for it to be really useful you'd have to either join a "web ring"-like thing with some friends where you'd all pin each others content, or have a bunch of VPSs pin your content, or be part of a bigger project which is currently using torrents.I'll have to look more into it, but I wonder if a RPi could be used as a small ipfs server, I feel it should...
