Shootings are pretty unusual in the UK.
Killing politicians is even more so. Particularly over something as seemingly banal as a referendum.
It would be interesting to see what Americans and other Europeans think.

No, I'm not sure it'll change much either. Public opinion on Europe tends not to be based on news events - or facts, indeed - but on long-held beliefs. I'm surprised that feeling is running so strong though (I left the UK when the referendum had just been announced, and people seemed completely disinterested in it. It's astonishing how much escalation there has been in the mean time)
