a few days ago, a friend posted something on Facebook to the effect of:
"I forgot that I love Jane's Addiction"
He went on to say that JA was one of the bands that his friends often played, and he liked their music - but back when music wasn't "free" and instantly accessible - he just never got around to buying any.
It got me thinking... what music have I forgotten that I love? This song comes from one such album. I remember buying the CD for one song in particular (that played at the club I frequented) and I turned out loving the whole album. Upon listening again... this song sounds a little to me like some of the work thenewgreen has been cranking out lately... which is to say... I love it.
and hey - who doesn't love a song called Slender Fungus?
Anyway - you can trip out to the whole album if you want.
So think back hubski - what music have you forgotten that you love?
That is a tough question since most of us can not remember what we have forgotten. But I I came up with a choice. I heard this in a (pre-internet) record store when I was a teenager, they wouldn't sell it to me and I could not read the liner notes as they were in Russian. But I remembered the name and searched in every store I could. Never found it and never met anyone that had heard of it so I forgot about it. Then 20 years or so later I googled "Soviet Funk Jazz 1970s" and finally found it. Melodiya Ensemble - Fiery River [1974] [Soviet jazz-funk] edit: Here is another one. I was thinking about what pop song I loved when I was little. TIL: 1) Henry Gross was a founding member of Sha Na Na; 2) at 18 was the youngest person to perform on the Woodstock main stage; and 3) the song was written about the death of The Beach Boy's Carl Wilson's Irish Setter. Henry Gross - Shannon [1976]
Thanks for the shout-out. I dig the music, I don't hear the comparison but I definitely take it as a compliment. Per your question, I listened to the album Mouthfuls by Fruit Bats a bunch back in the day and then i'll forget about it for a few years and go, "oh yeah... THAT album..." There are many others like that. Some that you might think are so ubiquitous I couldn't ever forget them, but Pink Floyd's The Wall was an album I used to listen to in full ALL THE TIME and I probably haven't done that in 15 years. Maybe I should...
lol. That reminded me of how much I enjoyed the soundtrack to Garden State. Since my car iPod was stolen I only listen to the radio and live in a small redneck town where the choice is either country or classic rock. I absolutely never would put on Pink Floyd or Zeppelin etc since I have heard it all thousands of times, but oh man do I love it sometimes when it comes on. It is incredible how long you can remember lyrics. I heard The Ocean today and was banging the steering wheel and singing way too loud.
Nice to know that someone noticed. Thanks pal. That last song I posted is one I actually like.
some one? how about this comment from one of the smartest, talented, musically minded (albeit fairly ornery) dudes I know? put that fucking feather in your cap. I'm not saying that you should live in other people's response to your art - but damn if that isn't a fairly succinct and positive piece of feedback.
