Been digging through heavy stuff for jogging lately. Slayer, Fear Factory, the like. I have a Hanzel und Gretyl EP, which is certainly heavy. I mixed 'em a couple times. Never realized they were legit sampling Hitler. Also, that they aren't German at all, but a couple New York kids pretending to be German. Bringen the frau mit der schnapps und bier! I mean, what the fuck. I recognize that this is "share some music you've been into lately" as opposed to "share some music that has been extremely disquieting to you lately" but fuckin' A - there's always been this undercurrent of fascist Nazi bullshit in Industrial music and we always laughed it off. "It's just a parody, ha ha!" I mean... ...yeah, if you're not paying attention you won't realize that those lyrics were written by Freddie Mercury. But I think you're allowed to go Godwin on a band when they straight up sample Hitler and sing in pidgin-German because they think it's cool.Let's get this töten party started, mach schnell!
The only time I have ever been "scared" at a concert was when I happened into a Rammstein show at a festival in eastern Europe. Definitely felt menacing in a very militaristic/national front kind of way. It was like the music was one thing, but everyone there was communicating about something else, that was under the surface and unspoken. And I was NOT a part of the conversation. I felt really out of place and unwelcome. Like I wandered into a secret meeting. I stayed for three songs and then bailed.
The only real fight I've ever seen at a goth club was at a Death in June show some actual Aryan Nations types showed up at. I will probably never go to a DiJ show again even if he does another US tour, but nazis running away from a dude in a velvet dress wielding an umbrella has to be the funniest thing I've ever seen at a concert.
my friend just sent me this - Apparently a friend of his, who just died (probably heart trouble - he was sick for a long time). Billboard's been posting a lot of obits lately, and his is among them
#dadlife I've heard this song 20 times over the weekend:
Absolutely nothing new. It's been nearly two years since I've gotten into a band I didn't already know. I seem to be in the stereotypical rut of "the best music was made when I was in my 20s." Long live the mid-2000s Canadian indie music. For the sake of the thread, the band I got into two years ago was Murder By Death. I got a free ticket to the 10 year anniversary of a venue near me, and they were headlining. This song spurred me to buy the album, and I bought their new one, too.
I have found that Synth Pop actually makes for good background noise. It's fun to listen to but still simple enough that it doesn't command too much attention. It's not a genre I'm super into, but I'm starting to think I should get a few albums just to listen to from time to time.
