I'm pretty pessimistic on this. It's easy to build a grid around large scale non-renewable power plants. It's easy to add wind and solar to a grid with large scale non-renewable power plants, and this is what many countries have been doing over the last decade or two. But it's very difficult and very expensive to build a robust power supply with wide availability with only solar and wind. I think the reason articles like this come off as "doom and gloom" is because the people at the heart of it know how bad the problem is and how impossible the solutions are.developing countries might not build large scale non-renewable energy infrastructure
