- “At night we can hear them screaming, but we’re not allowed to do anything about it,” the Marine’s father, Gregory Buckley Sr., recalled his son telling him before he was shot to death at the base in 2012. He urged his son to tell his superiors. “My son said that his officers told him to look the other way because it’s their culture.”
We didn't go there because of human rights abuses. We went there to find bin Laden and got stuck there when we decided to shut down 'terrorist training camps'. For almost 15 years we have had to keep coming up with reasons to stick around and continue on so the politicians chose a 'fight for human rights' and 'instilling democracy'. We have to deal with this shit because there are no good warlords. We ousted one set in preference for another, and we pretend that there's going to be any difference just to keep the show going. It's nonsense. I don't know many people who went to Afghanistan who support the war there. When we leave Afghanistan will absolutely fall in months back to the way it was and every bit of good that we tried obliviously to do will have been in vain.
