I like this poem, as opposed to a lot of Bukowski, because he's so narcissistic and it wears thin really quickly. But in this poem he tackles bigger issues like the failure of government to protect its people due to rampant corruption. Something else to remember is that this poem was published in 1992 though it's trying to feel like the dystopian sci-fi of the 1960s. It actually sounds really anachronistic in context because he talks about orbital space platforms and the like.
