the ones that post racially inflammatory click-bait and violence-inciting puke

I think there's only one? Correct me if I'm wrong, but no listing of names, please (that probably goes unsaid).

We usually only have one at a time before they get bored and peace out.

There are a few others who are much less prolific. One of these less prolific ones has been active in the past day or so to the joy of the other.

Along these lines, how have Hubski's moderation tools served you if you have employed them?

I have people (who are extremely racist or have posted in support of violence to silence feminists) muted and filtered, since I really don't want to see them. I often find their digital droppings when checking out other users' feeds (I check before I decide to follow/filter/mute people) though.

I also have several spammers muted and filtered, as well as tinyurl.com which has only ever been used on hubski by an accounthopping spammer. I've also filtered hate site and political FUD domains that I've come across in global.

I haven't even seen this sort of thing on Hubski. Am I just not subbed to the right (wrong?) hashtags?

Honestly I haven't seen a single troll yet. I've talked to people I've disagreed with, but it's been remarkably amicable!

It's far less prevalent here than it is in other sites. This makes it all the more jarring and visible when it does crop up though.

Glad you've not experienced it.

So would you say the mod tools have been fairly effective for you? Just curious. I've not had to use them save a couple times a few years ago to block some Ron Paul spammers, and they did the trick. The tools have gotten much more robust since then.

They're not perfect but they're ok. They keep my feeds from being hostile to my existence for the most part.

They've improved in the short time I've been on Hubski, including fixes for a few issues I pointed out.

The growing pains of most communities :/

Only the ones that let them stay, really.

I feel like there's a balance to be struck between free speech and censorship.

Clearly, these people do not represent the spirit of Hubski. Lurking briefly on the site reveals this.

Shy of having some "global mute" function, an analogue to this description of "global filter", there's no way to completely censor them. And if Hubski did, they'd just make another account and start over.

An open and popular forum will eventually expose all the evils of humanity, as featured by users' comments themselves. It was here fairly often even before the recent influx, and unfortunately, I don't think it's going away.

The moderation tools given to me seem to suffice for now, but we're not the same person.

Neither have we payed Hubski a cent. Yet.

Please try not to interpret this as me advocating for them or against you. Neither was my intent.
