Wow, that was a chilling piece of commentary and exceptional artwork.

Which will make a lovely whistling noise as it goes over the heads of so many :(

goo  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

I'm not sure the video itself will fly over heads - his pain is extremely palpable. Rather, it will be judged by its headline, as so much media is these days.

I am a little sad to admit that it is mostly my faith in Hubski that made me watch the video (which I am thankful for), as opposed to immediately casting it off as "more red pill rubbish" just based on the title. Something I'll have to ponder.

Knowing some of the people here, (the ones that post racially inflammatory click-bait and violence-inciting puke like "all feminists should be beaten" and make comments about how feminists should be forced to transition as punishment,) it's going to be thrown around as "look, see, feminism is a complete fraud because a woman raped a boy!"

am_Unition  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

the ones that post racially inflammatory click-bait and violence-inciting puke

I think there's only one? Correct me if I'm wrong, but no listing of names, please (that probably goes unsaid).

We usually only have one at a time before they get bored and peace out.

tla  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

There are a few others who are much less prolific. One of these less prolific ones has been active in the past day or so to the joy of the other.

ecib  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

Along these lines, how have Hubski's moderation tools served you if you have employed them?

tla  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

I have people (who are extremely racist or have posted in support of violence to silence feminists) muted and filtered, since I really don't want to see them. I often find their digital droppings when checking out other users' feeds (I check before I decide to follow/filter/mute people) though.

I also have several spammers muted and filtered, as well as tinyurl.com which has only ever been used on hubski by an accounthopping spammer. I've also filtered hate site and political FUD domains that I've come across in global.

aidrocsid  ·  3171 days ago  ·  link  ·

I haven't even seen this sort of thing on Hubski. Am I just not subbed to the right (wrong?) hashtags?

Honestly I haven't seen a single troll yet. I've talked to people I've disagreed with, but it's been remarkably amicable!

thenewgreen  ·  3171 days ago  ·  link  ·

It's far less prevalent here than it is in other sites. This makes it all the more jarring and visible when it does crop up though.

Glad you've not experienced it.

ecib  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

So would you say the mod tools have been fairly effective for you? Just curious. I've not had to use them save a couple times a few years ago to block some Ron Paul spammers, and they did the trick. The tools have gotten much more robust since then.

tla  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

They're not perfect but they're ok. They keep my feeds from being hostile to my existence for the most part.

They've improved in the short time I've been on Hubski, including fixes for a few issues I pointed out.

am_Unition  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

The growing pains of most communities :/

tla  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

Only the ones that let them stay, really.

am_Unition  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

I feel like there's a balance to be struck between free speech and censorship.

Clearly, these people do not represent the spirit of Hubski. Lurking briefly on the site reveals this.

Shy of having some "global mute" function, an analogue to this description of "global filter", there's no way to completely censor them. And if Hubski did, they'd just make another account and start over.

An open and popular forum will eventually expose all the evils of humanity, as featured by users' comments themselves. It was here fairly often even before the recent influx, and unfortunately, I don't think it's going away.

The moderation tools given to me seem to suffice for now, but we're not the same person.

Neither have we payed Hubski a cent. Yet.

Please try not to interpret this as me advocating for them or against you. Neither was my intent.

mike  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

I was just about to type the same thing goo. I was indeed hesitant to watch the video because of the title but OftenBen posted it so it was probably worth seeing. I think on other sites the message would go whistling by, but not on Hubski.

I still wasn't sure until I saw Isherwood wasn't in a foaming rage, so then I clicked.

Isherwood  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

Yay, I'm a trendsetter.

someguyfromcanada  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

What is with all the ass kissing in this thread?

Quatrarius  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

graphictruth  ·  3171 days ago  ·  link  ·

SomeConservativeMP makes it a little embarrassing to be Canadian.

caeli  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

These are hilarious...and also so well designed! Did you make them yourself?

Quatrarius  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

Nah, sadly. Just favorited them.

OftenBen  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

I try to avoid editorializing posts.

someguyfromcanada  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

Good job kissing ass.

thenewgreen  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

I love me some OftenBen, but I only watched because you commented. Glad you did, it was provocative.

someguyfromcanada  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

More ass kissing. FFS.

Quatrarius  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

edit: wrong link

Wrong forum idiot.

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

This is my first time surfing hubski and my very first experience was this post, and I would have to agree that I was of the ideologue of "more red pill rubbish" but now I feel humbled.

_refugee_  ·  3171 days ago  ·  link  ·

Hi!

I used to play flute quite a lot. It's been years but it was my first college major. Unfortunately college kind of helped drive it out of me.

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3171 days ago  ·  link  ·

hahaha I hope it did. Actually I don't play the flute, I play piano, but I am working on it. The name is a reference to Jackie Chan's Drunken Master, where one of the drunken gods is a flute player. :)

goo  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

Welcome to Hubski! I probably won't be much help as I am relatively green myself, but hopefully you're enjoying the experience so far.

Humbled is the perfect word here - I am unhappy about making such an assumption, particularly on a discussion-focused website such as Hubski.

DrunkenFlutePlayer  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

Hahaha thanks for the greeting. And you just pointed towards my favorite part as to why I enjoy this site so much (i.e that it's a discussion based website)

Isherwood  ·  3171 days ago  ·  link  ·

What a great movie

i appreciate that I am given that consideration.

steve  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

I had the same response... like... I kinda squinted, turned away a little and hesitantly clicked on the mouse...

but I'm glad I did... I think. I'm actually still processing it.

OftenBen  ·  3172 days ago  ·  link  ·

I'm not 'glad' that I saw it. But I did recognize that it's a necessary component in discussions of sexual assault and punishment.
