Just playing devil's advocate, so please don't take this personally! Will it always be that way? Will we never find peace? If we all hooked up into a single computer and somebody turned it off, would we still be dying alone?

The "we" I used refers to a pluralized "I", the kind philosophers use when being meta and solipsistic. As for you, personally, it may well be possible you'll find peace, and you may find a technological singularity that means you'll die in a multitude of interconnected minds.
