If rod had cut loose a bit more it might have been alright. I'm not much a fan of his version of Downtown Train.

Good call. I heard Rods version first and then, when I heard Tom Waits version I was floored. What a great song it actually is. I have similar feelings about the song Bird on a Wire -Leonard Cohens version is amazing but the cover by The Neville Brothers falls way short of the originals emotional depth. I mean way short.
