I strongly agree with this essay. From my personal experience, I grew up in China, the Chinese education system is very rigid, and strongly focuses on math and science. There was a saying in China when I was at school-----"Math, physics and chemistry will get you anywhere", and now it has evolved to "Computer and English will get you anywhere". So I always took pride when I did really well in all the Science classes, because I was considered as "smart", but I never took shame when I failed history classes since it was not that important. Now I've graduated and been working for awhile. Looking back, I've missed a lot. I have tried hard to catch up ever since, and it has made my life a lot more colorful and interesting. I do agree that the Humanities teach people to be a critical thinker about our society. However, I've never regretted what I've learned about the math and science. It's not too much about the knowledge that I've learned over the years, it's about the tools they gave us to learn. Math and Science encourages you to think about how things happen around us, and it's a lot of fun too.
I apologize for my rambling, I feel strongly about this article, and if I am allowed, I can say much more. But basically, all knowledge is good, education shouldn't have bias. Education shouldn't be just about handing over knowledge, it should be teaching you how to gather it.
