Congrats on being healthier! Always a helpful thing to exercise is to set aside an hour every single day, when you make it a habit, and not a forced, occasional thing, you will improve a lot more steadily. For this reason, I've personally given up gyms/treadmills for the time being, even though they are very helpful to pacing, because they don't give a very deterministic time frame for exercise.

Having to wait an extra half hour for a machine to open up can be very demotivating psychologically, and when you don't know how long exercise will take, it can be harder to allocate time for it every day.

I have always felt very insecure working out in gyms. I have never felt insecure being in nature.

I recently moved to North Carolina from Michigan and one of the benefits of living here is that you can pretty much exercise/recreate outside all year long. I plan on allocating 1 hour 3 days a week for short runs and 2 hours 1 day a week for a longer run. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I can't stand gyms.
