I have a similar note bookmarked, Patton Oswalt's The Good Outnumber You. I try to reread it whenever I find my faith in humanity challenged. I'm also fond of what Fred Rogers said on the subject,
When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'

Regardless of whether it was written by EB White or not, it certainly speaks truth as to why I - and probably plenty of others - maintain hope in at least a part of humanity which drags the rest kicking and screaming into the future. Letters of Note is a good blog.
