I'll admit that I stopped reading the article about halfway through as the same sort of arguments were becoming tired. Just how, though, is any of this unique to the Democratic party? If you made all of the qualifiers, adjectives, and anecdotes of this article their opposite, wouldn't that more or less describe the Republican party? The author seems to be implying that the Democratic party is failing, but all for the symptoms of this that he mentions could, at least to me, be ascribed just as easily to a general failure of the political system in the US. In other words, I'd say that what he argues to be issues with the Left are simply issues with politics - Right, Center, and Left.
