I'm not convinced about a supposed gay slur in Wreck-It Ralph or making fun of Ken for being a bit pretty in Toy Story 3. It's not helpful to jump all over every little gay joke. But the fact that Disney hasn't had any kind of normal gay character is pretty damning, and people like Pixar should know better.

As the article mentions, Archie has had such success with their gay character Kevin than he's even got his own spin-off. From 2005 onwards Doctor Who has done an amazing job of including gay characters without making a big deal of their sexuality — they're just there, as normal people. It's been a real breath of fresh air and proof that you can do this kind of thing in children's entertainment without bringing about the apocalypse.

But we've got to give Disney some time, I suppose. It took them until 2009 to have a black princess. Give 'em another 50 years and they might come up with a lesbian princess.
