blimpy: A friend of mine is in medicine. She just finished med school and has started her residency. By all accounts, she is one of the brightest and most capable people that were at her Med School. She was AOA, and at the very top of her class. She has confided in me that she hates her residency. She feels stupid every day. She knows next to nothing about what she's doing and is on the verge of wanting to quit. This would most certainly be medicines loss.

She enjoys learning and realizes that in order to do so, sometimes you have to feel... "stupid" but it's hard for her. I think many scientists enjoy "knowing". Not "knowing" is a challenge to them, which stimulates breakthroughs etc. What's hard is when it's ALL not knowing. This is where she finds herself now.

Great post, thanks.
