Today, we filed a legal challenge against Seattle’s heavy-handed attempt to squash its residents’ “unconscious bias.” A new Seattle ordinance forbids landlords from choosing their own tenants in a sweeping effort to prevent subliminal prejudices from tampering with their decisions

New Seattle law came into effect recently that requires a landlord to accept the first qualified applicant and disallows screening and limits security deposits. Its a pretty shitty law that will make it even harder to find suitable housing in Seattle and further increase rents but some of you might find it advantageous to use in the short period between enactment and repeal.

It's certainly not a first of it's kind law. It's been this way in Portland for as long as I've lived here. There are many ways that landlords can put up barriers to renting to a person they don't want to like credit scores or just ignoring the law.
