There are so many sad stories like that. Bitter Sweet Symphony is pretty sad even though no one died. Apparently they licenced a sample but used a longer slice than they paid for. Long story short, writing credit was changed to Jagger/Richards and all the royalties for these one hit wonders went to a former Stones manager.
