After thenewgreen asked What's holding you back? I am really really happy to say I have applied for the job! Hooray!

It's been a long time since I did any actual jobhunting, our situation changed and it just felt like I'd never find the motivation to do anything about it and would always get in my own way. Well I've gone and I've done it. I actually now have to go tell my friend as he's probably going to cry when he hears the news, hah!

goobster:

I guess I turned 48 yesterday.

I didn't really notice because I was out in the utterly gorgeous forest around Deception Pass in Washington State, camping with a group of friends, and attending their forest wedding.

The bride, groom, and officiant all had megaphones. There were two well-dressed clowns on either side of them with signs that said things like "Applause", "AWWW!", "Forced Laughter", and "NO CRYING!"

It was hilarious and fun and we burned a half cord of wood in a huge outdoor hearth, and eventually went to bed at around 4:AM when the liquor and ... other stuff... ran out.

It was lovely, and fun, and I had amazing and deep conversations about space, and women's experience in the world and how it differs from us men, and about how to do marketing for a boutique jeweler, and why pokemon can be fun.

Then I went to my parents' house and watched my sportsball team out sports the other sportsball team, and had a lovely time hanging with my amazing parents and sister, and ate apple cobbler from my mom's tree, and then went home and got to have a lazy evening and bath in my giant bathtub with my lovely wife.

Oh... and somewhere in there I turned 48.

So I'm proud of the life I have created, in which turning almost-50 is basically a non-event, because there is so much other awesome stuff going on!
