This thing was one of the prettiest planes I know of. Bugatti was developing it prior to WWII but smuggled it out of Italy to prevent the Nazis from using the design. Bugatti never flew it.

Scotty built a replica by hand, powered by dual Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle mills. He'd determined that the original oiling system would have crapped out... but apparently he was so spooked by the beastie that he intended to give the thing to a museum after its third flight.

This was the third flight.

There's a certain amount of risk in experimental aircraft, more so in experimental aircraft based on old designs, still more so based on old designs from someone with less experience designing aircraft than, say, you. There's a certain inevitability to the result. Not a happy inevitability, to be sure.
