Hey all,

This is a site I made as a final project for one of my classes. I was going to share this in Pubski tomorrow, but I'm too excited about it finally being (mostly) working to wait.

Basically, you pick your feeling, and the site gives you back a message from someone who was feeling the opposite/complementary emotion. As you type, you unearth more of their message. If you choose to save, you get added to the stored database (which was a pain in the ass to code for someone who doesn't really know anything about web-based stuff) and can be randomly selected as an option for future visitors.

The site is still pretty glitchy (I had a hard time overriding backspace, so 'enter' is used to erase text. Also, apostrophes fuck things up) but I would appreciate if you all could add a message at some point, or even just check it out and not save things.

NOTES: Most of the texts are just testing ones that I forgot to remove. It is currently running pretty slowly because I am hosting it through Heroku, and just redirecting that towards my site - once I figure out how to, I'll just upload the files directly to the site, which should speed things up a bit. Doesn't work on mobile. I am planning on reworking the text input stuff so that you can edit more easily.

(Also - oh no, now you all know my not-so-secret identity!)

LuckySteves:

Good site Brendan, I really like the concept of matching complimentary emotions!

Couple bugs I noticed: if you have 'find as you type' enabled, you can only type one character before it tries to find on page. As a result, I pressed a button, hit escape, pressed a button, hit escape...Made for a less enjoyable experience.

Also, maybe not a bug, but you might want to remove revealing another character when you press enter to delete one of your own. It allows you to press enter as much as you like to see their message without writing anything yourself.

I like the idea a lot, definitely lots of potential to have a meaningful conversation with a stranger!
