I think I'm in the pretty rare situation of never having put myself out there online like this. At first it was because of the warnings from school assemblies that everyone on the internet was a pedophile and not to be trusted; after that I got caught up in the Free Software movement and kept my private life offline out of principle. I wonder, now, what my life will be like in the near future, when I have no digital fingerprint and everyone else is haunted by their online ghosts. I've heard it might actually be bad for job prospects now, though, since often the first thing an employer does is do a google search of your name.
