As a first generation college student this was an interesting little piece to read. There were a lot of things about my experience that were different than this author's, but I definitely resonated with the feeling of not knowing what you don't know.
Are any of you first generation college students? What was your experience?
Reading this article, I was thinking how my college experience felt like the opposite of what the author was describing. Both of my parents went to college, as did my two older siblings. To me it felt like my family was unengaged with me going to college. They'd done it all before. It left me, who hadn't done it before, feeling a bit alienated.
