Hey Hubski!
Absolutely exhausted from this weekend - possibly the best I've had in a while. I have a trip report which I'll also dub the Monday Special since I have to catch up on all the time I missed while I was away.
My school has an awesome program which takes musicians on a trip a few times a year to go see an opera at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, NY. This year, four pianists (including myself), a violinist, a bagpiper and our chaperone, an organist and tenor attended The Rake’s Progress by Igor Stravinsky. Best part? A generous alum makes this trip absolutely gratis.
Woke up at 5:30 and made coffee. Bleary-eyed, stepped into the car at 6:30 and made our way to New York by 11.
Lunch:
First Course—Octopus
Main—Salmon
After lunch, we took our seats. In the classic style of the Met, the set design was awesome—they had forced-perspective sets which went all the way up to the opera house roof mounted on rollers to facilitate quick and sudden scenery changes. A very touching tale indeed. Highly recommended.
During the intermission, we had dessert—Cheesecake
Afterwards, I took some photos just outside the Met Opera, including one of our fantastic chaperone

Thanks demure. I'm pro-opera, but particularly pro-The Met: Live in HD. It's in just about every major city now. If opera's not your thing, hubski, (and why should it be)?), go see at least one performance of the MetLive in HD at one of your local movie theatres. It might change your mind.
