Just heard this story while driving around, doing errands, and listening to Radiolab. It's the first time I've heard anyone attempting to explain "the light at the end of the tunnel" without a religious context behind it. Gave me chills.

Also my grandfather was working as an F-15 instructor at Luke AFB while this was going on so I'm trying to get in touch with him and see if he knew anything about this experimentation.
