I would like to see him flesh out his ideas more fully, maybe in future posts. I think that each of his three points could be a major essay itself.

To me, this embodies the problem:

    As long as one of our major parties is opposed to essentially all trade agreements, and the other is resistant to funding international organisations, the US will not be in a position to shape the global economic system.

I'm not going to fall into the "both sides are to blame" trap, because the Right is to blame mostly, but the Left has its own populists who continue to stifle progress for the sake of a nostalgic ideal that never was. Trade protectionism is never the best way forward.
