I'm glad the author of this article decided to include Ōshima Nagisa's In The Realm of the Senses (愛のコリーダ) in this article, because that film used to stir up quite a bit of controversy back when it was released. So much, in fact, that even up to this day you cannot buy a fully uncensored copy of it in Japan. It's a French production of a Japanese movie, which is rare, and back in the seventies, when the Japanese film industry was having a hard time due to the suffering economy and did almost nothing but pushing out cheap (but nontheless culty and fun-to-watch) soft-porn movies, it was even rarer.

This film is basically pornography, but it has to be the most unerotic pornography I have ever seen, because the whole background of psychological destruction is so disturbing that it is literally impossible to be aroused be it. And the fact that the whole thing's based on a true story doesn't make it any better.
