I am upstairs in bed, and we currently have a New Year Eve party going on at our house.

I have a wicked fever, and just couldn’t entertain any longer. I am terribly cold, and it feels like I have hot broken glass in the back of my throat. Actually, thenewgreen played a role in my condition: http://hubski.com/pub?id=12088 He knew the owner. :)

gq and all the girls at the party told me to get to bed. The guys said “bummer”.

This seems like the perfect time for the “The State of Hubski” post I’ve been planning to write. Apologies I advance. I do have a fever.

This was Hubski’s first year. -It was a good one.

Most importantly, Hubski has become exactly what I had hoped it might be. Whether it’s some weird art-noise video from sounds_sound, a poem from caio, or an amazingly in-depth analysis of an 80’s movie or geopolitical event from kleinbl00, there are always rewards that keep me excited to come back.

Let’s face it, democratized information and crowd-sourced analysis is a very valuable thing. In fact, if you’d let me buy you a milk, I could probably convince you that it is more valuable than you currently assume.

In my effort to build a better aggregator, I came to the conclusion than the make or break point of Hubski was going to be the filtering. Five months ago, we decided that the filters on Hubski would be the people.

The reasoning was such: I don’t follow alpha0 because he posts about architecture. I follow him because he is alpha0. If alpha0 thinks it’s interesting, I’ll probably feel the same.

I think it was the right move.

As far as other site functionality is concerned, most of the heavy lifting has been done. From here on out, most changes will come in the form of tweaks made in response to usage and feedback.

Simply put: Hubski is in a good place this New Year Eve, and thanks for being part of that.

I’ve learned a lot this last year, and you hubskiers taught me most of it. For this reason, this will always remain a notable year in my life.

Thanks!

Let’s see where this road leads.

Happy New Year!

p.s. If you think you know someone that would appreciate our site, do let them know. I know some of you think that too many cooks will spoil this broth, but the goal was to cook it in a way that it won’t. As kleinbl00 quoted Vinod Khosla: "if it doesn't scale, it doesn't matter."

b_b: I'm not on Facebook, and whenever friends or whomever used to ask me about it I would always try to come up with an explanation about privacy and blah, blah, blah. Now I just roll my eyes, and say, "I'm on Hubski" in a really dismissive and condescending way.
