After one of the school shootings many years ago there was a push to arm our local community college police officers. The officers and their union pushed hard against it. It looked like they might end up being required to carry firearms against their will, their unions will, and the general student bodies wishes but in the end they managed to stay unarmed.

I have always found the police officers in that particular community college system helpful, respectful and level headed, go figure.
