I feel like linguists should wait a few years before announcing an internet fad is "changing the language." Most memes only last a few years.

They cite pseudo-usage dating to 2001, but the "because-noun" meme has only really been mainstream for maybe 18 months. It will probably fade into obscurity in another 18 months.
