Of course but my point is I keep seeing other people use a variety of these terms, it's probably got something to do with an ancestral desire to belong to a tribe, but whatever, it's happening. I just wanted to see if we could actually agree on one of them that suck less than the rest so that when people feel the need to use one, it's not a different one each time.
This same question has been tickling the back of my brain for the last few days. Now that I've read your post, I'm quite happy that there isn't an easy question to answer. People should have more important things to identify themselves by than the websites they frequent.
That is not what I was saying at all. I was just suggesting another item to read, that attacked the point from a different direction. What you wrote is only a call to action, perhaps I was harsh in saying this, but I clicked on it assuming it would be a critique and it wasn't. And please continue with your ad hominem attacks.
I don't think ad hominem applies. She is accusing you of actions not saying you are wrong because of qualities. I think there is a fallacy in play but its name does not come to my fingers. something about
ascribing intentions to others. This is always a problem in Marxist/Freudian disciplines. In my opinion (as a western-cis-hetero-nearly white-male with an advanced degree) Identity studies should be reworked on a less theory laden paradigm.
I appreciate what you are trying to do here, but I don't see how it cannot be an ad hominen attack. What she says is "you can't not believe what this author is writing because of who she is" which is an ad hominen attack. She did not engage with the author's argument in anyway, and only dismisses it based on who the author is. Which is too bad since I would think, perhaps wrongly, that laurelai would appreciate a book about intersectionality, and how interest organizations constantly try to frame advantaged group issues as being universal, while ignoring disadvantaged group issues.ignore the person who lives the reality as opposed to the cis woman with privilege
I dont need a book written by a privileged white cis woman to tell me about intersectionality because i live the experience every day of my life. Those books are for you people. The people who dont face multiple axes of oppression, honestly what can this book tell me about my life that I dont already know? I dismissed her work and your suggestion like i did because you tried to tell someone who lives on multiple axes of oppression to read a book on multiple axes of oppression, i found it a bit insulting and patronizing. You are more worried about logically constructed arguments than real life pain faced by human beings when people are seldom convinced by logic, they are convinced by emotion and use logic to justify it after the fact. Im just honest about being motivated by emotion. This writing was a reaction to the marginalization transgender people face within activism and within the regular everyday world. Where the people who are supposed to be on our side instead show solidarity with the people who want us dead and spend their money trying to keep laws protecting trans women from being passed, or working to repeal existing protections. This wasnt to convince someone on the internet with no vested interest in the situation, this was a war cry to other trans women who know exactly what we face and have seen it too. I dont have to prove it to them using logic because they live it every single day just like i do. Im speaking truth to power, not writing a scientific paper. Deal with it.
I was saying It is not a ad hom against you. dismissing a paper because of its author is classic ad hom but not necessarily an attack. I read Ms. Bailey's venom to be directed at you not the book you suggested. Maybe I misread.
makes me right. ;) with that out of the way I am sorry the two of you met is such a unpleasant way. I think you two prolly have a lot to share.
If this was a diner party or a evening at the pub with friends.
(which really is what hubski is at least to me) What I would do here is say to geneusutwerk "this is Laurelai - Laurelai this is geneusutwerk I think both of you have an interest in gender politics" y'all would shake hands, realize the other person is a person, mumble greetings/apologies and prolly hit it off. so whatever the online equivalent of this is.
No, because kjoneslol has been in the position to take over for years and Syncretic wouldn't fuck over his friend for some shitty reddit gag.
That would have pretty much been amazing. Missed opportunities..
Hey :) So is this the new thing we're doing now? I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Don't worry, I'm here too. I know that's the deciding factor ;)
So many Redditors.... are we like the cancer that is killing hubski now?
Ah, looks like the dregs of Reddit crawled right into this thread :p
Pff, it's Australia: babies learn how to fight dingos when they're 5 months-old. Otherwise they're thrown in the ThunderDome.
Who should I talk to about letting people know how admins protect child porn on Reddit?
LOL they do - and I have proof! I also have proof that I never accepted payments but I consider the CP a more important issue at this point.
Well obviously you're going to think whatever you're going to think - I'm the only one who's actually providing transcripts of these conversations and proof that I actually reported the spammer who they're accusing me of taking payments from. They're simply making false accusations and saying "We're admin. Believe what we say. They were bad."
Is that what you said? I must have misread that. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT PISSES ME OFF ABOUT THIS! They have no evidence, they even said they don't believe I acted inappropriately and they DEFINITELY can't produce any mod logs that say I did any of these things.... because I never did them.
Look - I asked those two guys "man to man" if they ever actually accepted payments. They told me no. I have no reason to not believe what they're telling me and again, I could never find anything in the mod logs that supported what they were saying. I went back through 2 months of mod log info and never even found one link that SpackSack supposedly approved and only 3 mod actions TOTAL. The whole thing is just bullshit. The bigger the lie, the more people believe - and there's more than enough evidence to say that admins consistently lie about why prominent users have been banned.
My thing is ive made more trouble for the reddit admins than anyone on the site period and they have yet to shadowban me, in fact i think i have some kind of record for getting other people banned. You know why? I follow the rules. To the letter. Yes im a colossal pain in the ass for certain groups of people, but I do it within reddits rules. Oh and I always watch my mod teams like a hawk. A mix of e-lawyer and paranoia keeps you from getting banned.
Except for the fact that users can be banned for "causing too much drama" according to dacvak and I'd say you've raised enough drama to warrant a ban.
Didn't the admins give a vague statement about rule-breaking in that case too? Something about them having "investigated" the account and found reasons for a ban? The drama posts seemed to have set that investigation off, though.
They also accused him of posting pictures of underage girls which is absolute bullshit. Admins simply make up any lie that suits their needs.
Yeah, I don't know. Personally I don't like PIMA but that's just me. I'm listening to the DailyDot conversation on Liveleak right now and if you want my advice, you should keep pushing on the fact that you've prevented CP from being posted.
The fact is the PIMA and violenta both fought battles that I didn't agree with that resulted in their eventual departure from Reddit. This does not negate the fact that they were both excellent moderators who did a lot for Reddit.
I agree. My dislike for them is only personal. When was the DailyDot conversation recorded? That user you said you guys reported multiple times seems to have been banned.
This afternoon. The removal of /u/MrSnakeX must have been recent because when I checked the other day the account was still up. The thing is, the links he posted are still active if you search his name which means all of his posts are still active: http://www.reddit.com/r/all/search?q=mrsnakex
According to the guy you were talking to the account was up during your conversation. I guess the admins are listening to it as well?
Lol no of course not. He just searched the name in the search bar which is what that URL I sent you was.
Yeah the InternetAMA mods said they would approve it but I guess that didn't happen.
I'll see if I can contact loves_being_that_guy on facebook. One of the braveryjerk crew.
Looks like it's up now. They'll still have to manually approve my comments though.
They banned you, fucked you over extra by deleting all your history, and shadowbanned your new account too, and made 2 different (most likely false) accusations without proof. Do you yet feel responsible for a lot of your subreddits? Anyway, ontopic; I think your best shot might be SRS.
>Do you yet feel responsible for a lot of your subreddits? Only because I was responsible for most of that success. I worked really hard to make my subreddits as popular as they were and it sucks to lose all that effort however I'm more interested in letting the public know about all the shitty things admin do behind the scenes that you can only learn after becoming a moderator.
For one they didn't scale properly, they got huge and failed to empower the moderators with the right tools to run their subreddits. Second they kept too little control of the site and it descended into mob rule rather quickly, this forced the formation of factions and the related struggles that continue to tear apart the website.
Also terrible transparency on the admins part, although I think the mods had enough power and some took it a little far. Large subs needed something else because 20 something people controlling 3 million doesn't work well on the internet. Also, are you the same Laurelai?
Yes I am and the mods on reddit in the defaults for the most part are absolutely terrified of being witch hunted by the userbase. The mods did not have the ability to detect or ban alt accounts or lock threads or hard delete anything, not even doxxing. Other forums have figured all this stuff out and reddit wont budge on it. The crowds are so easily swayed and manipulated into grabbing the torches and pitchforks over the most absurd stuff.
I think reddit would have really benefited from IP bans.
lol LL he's the brave one from SRDB modmail. The one who tried to outcopypasta us.
I came here because of the SRSmeta post that was put up a little while ago advertising this place as a decent alternative...but honestly? If reddit power users and defaut mods are here in force, this place is already on its way down the shitter. I came to find a way to get away from reddit and redditors. Didn't really expect to show up only to find the same exact people who help to make reddit so hostile and disgusting...
It wont, however you can ignore mayonesa and never see another post from him again. You can ignore the tags he uses and if he breaks the rules here you can report him to the site owner. mk actually gives a shit unlike some other website admins who shall remain nameless.

I came here almost a year ago on the suggestion of saydrah after the whole reddit witch hunt thing started. The folks were polite and didn't care about where I came from or what had happened. I was actually able to have civil discussions with other reasonable human beings, there was always an environment here that felt like i could leave reddit drama at the door and i enjoy that.
Just as I've posted my little rant here and gotten responses that are not calling me a shill, I can see the why it's liked. Though the rampant circlejerking seems to have taken effect already
Huh, nothing there. Suprised this isn't a thing yet. I thought it would be.
It's sort of inherent in the badging system. Click "badges" under "discover" and it's the more formalized "bestof" process.
lol LL he's the brave one from SRDB modmail. The one who tried to outcopypasta us.
Let's hope it doesn't get invaded by neo-nazis, then. Or that there's some process/protocol for getting all the nasty crap removed.
that's fantastic, at the very least. Does it show their name and then not the comment? I guess I'll find out eventually.
At the moment it will remove the posts with those tags or made by those people from your feed. It won't remove the comments by those people currently, their name will just be struck-through. I made a userscript to hide comments from ignored people, but the strike-through thing is new and breaks my script at the moment. I'm hopeful that something like this or even more useful will be implemented in hubski itself.
