hmmm. Just noticed that links loaded after clicking on 'more' in global doesn't cause the 'filter ____' option to appear on hover.

Richard Branson's anecdote corroborates CB's view.

Some years ago, Mr Trump invited me to lunch for a one-to-one meeting at his apartment in Manhattan. We had not met before and I accepted. Even before the starters arrived he began telling me about how he had asked a number of people for help after his latest bankruptcy and how five of them were unwilling to help. He told me he was going to spend the rest of his life destroying these five people.

The situation all around fucked up then. I was hoping that at the very least there was a pragmatic solution until the legislation was revoked. Something like how Irishwomen travel to Britain for the procedure :|

Does this also extend to going overseas? I would imagine that if it were posited as a human rights or corruption regulation it would, but IDK if that is the case.

Okay, dumb question: What would prevent the woman from simply hopping one state over and getting the procedure done there?

I'll echo kleinbl00 on War and Peace.

It was on my reading list for the longest time, because I absolutely adored Tolstoy's short stories. Never made it past 100 pages. The story itself wasn't interesting and looking at translator notes became taxing quickly.

I've had the translation by Louise and Aylmer Maude for so long that the pages have started to yellow.

- The Art of Travel by Alain de Botton

Had to study this for the HSC. That guy has managed to outwank 'deconstructed coffee' x100

I ended up going to goodreads, looking at a few quotes and reviews and basing my essays off of that.

Harry Potter - Felt exceedingly dull

Paulo Cohelo et. al. Feel good self help masquerading as literature.

Mostly Megaman

xygarde  ·  2634 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: BRAGSKI!!! What have you accomplished lately?

Congrats :)

I got into my first preference uni. Made all those nights slogging through Shakespeare and Eliot to write pretentious essays worth it.

Get to move interstate, a good distance away from family. Orientation starts in two weeks.

I'm alternating between excitement and dread right now.

Gurren Lagann does a similar thing for me. Kamina's speech to Simon, and later Simon's dialog with the anti-spiral.

If OVAs don't count,

I really picture scientists as people spending inordinate amounts of time on a single subject, pouring through books and repeating tedious experiments, and then making conclusions based on the data. Brahe, Galelio et al. would seem to fit that.

I agree that the job title of "scientist" wasn't defined back then and that science overlapped with what we would consider bunk today. However, the word 'scientist' provides a non-ambiguous way to communicate what they did. Calling Hooke a 'natural philosopher' doesn't really help inform people of what he did. Scientist, otoh, does.

We could go around educating people on the various predecessors to modern scientist, but that would be an excercise in pedantry.

xygarde  ·  2755 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Ask Hubski: What's holding you back?

Being watched, or rather the inability to work while being watched.

I'm forced to live in the same house as my parents & grandparents, and if it isn't them who intrude, its visitors or the domestic help. I'm never left alone for more than a waking hour and if I tell them, I'm asked to get over myself.

Its really stressing me out as I have exams soon and need to get 80+ in everything, which is only making me more irritable.

Same. I have a non-dismissed notification so it turns from blue to orange.

I won't opine on Hillary, but I agree with his sentiment.

Cars are bullshit because because they are clunky and high maintenance and driving through city traffic sucks. Can't afford anything other than a clunker as the only jobs available are at McColesworth. Taking the bus is often just as fast, unless you live in the suburbs in which case, during rush hour, taking the train is faster.

Houses are bullshit because they can cost upwards of a million dollars unless you want to live far away from the city centre. Except that then you'll have to spend hours commuting to the center where all the jobs are or buy a car and still spend a significant amount of time going through motorways that run as slow as molasses. Rent is increased in accordance with the house prices so good luck saving enough to afford a house in the future.

You can.

- Boil moong dal with turmeric and chilli, removing any foam. ~45 minutes in the open/ ~20 minutes in a pressure cooker. (1:7 dal:water) Optionally use cardamom, bay leaves.

- After it is done boiling, mash it with a potato masher.

- Add salt to taste

- Prepare the tadka by heating a small amount of oil for a minute or two at max and then turning the heat off. Add cumin, ground coriander seeds, garlic, chilli, asafoetida, ginger (vary according to taste) and quickly transfer to the dal, before it burns.

You can stir in chopped coriander/chutney separately if you'd like to.

My mom made this all the time. Fucking hated it. Found it incredibly bland and refused to have it.

I personally make Channa/Toor (50:50) dal or Urad Dal (with extra chilli) to go along with rice.
