good question. I'd imagine it's both. Could be that there is a vested interest in keeping people afraid. In times of fear from violence, traditionally it seems that the country prefers a more conservative candidate. -could be politically motivated? Also, there is the whole military industrial complex that would do quite well if the wars in the Mid-East (and elsewhere) continue. Fear = greater defense spending. Harder to cut a military budget when the enemy is right in our own backyard trying to build there headquarters right on ground zero. There is a ton of money in fear. The entire main stream media is driven by it. "Up next, are batteries killing your children... but first the weather".

We all have an internal dialogue playing in our mind. Some of us can't control this dialogue and the mind takes over in the drivers seat -you've perhaps seen these people on street corners or on public transportation systems talking/yelling at themselves or invisible others. Although I certainly have an over-active internal dialogue I cannot imagine what it would be like for it to appear as if it were speaking to me from as a separate entity. I can't imagine "hearing" it rather than "thinking" it. -This would be terrifying.

It's an interesting challenge to educators. I wonder how many are taking it? I'd love to have some quantitative data on the results. They parameters of the challenge seem valid. ROLE makes sense, especially in conjunction with smaller class sizes.
