Very true. I'm not expressing an opinion. I'm not sure how I feel about this, and by its very nature, we cannot predict where this is going.

But it is interesting at the very least.

Thanks for the update!

I'm feeling good about my chances. Global temp is cruising up ahead of expectations, and I don't see any reason to think that we will lower CO2 emissions. My bet is that sea level rise will go non-linear earlier than IPCC estimates due to a positive feedback loop.

It seems to me that Xi sees himself to be more like Mao than any of his predecessors. Reuniting Taiwan might loom large in his mind as the achievement that would prove it. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes to pass.

I'm not sure I've grokked metamodernism enough, but based on what I have, it seems the protagonist arc is more or less coming to terms with the fact we are on an absurd interactive ride, and we can enjoy it and that's enough.

I'm ambivalent. The tuition bubble was fueled by loans, and this is a temporary fix for breaking the model by saddling the next generation middle class with debt when they need to buy houses and stuff and pay taxes. It's ugly, but nothing new.

Ultimately, it's buying votes, and boomers are freaked that their votes aren't the ones that politicians are buying first anymore. Millennials can point to countless boomer entitlements that fuck them, and can feel justified saying "Yeah, it's not exactly fair, but fuck you we need it."

Boomers ran the table, and now Millennials will, and it will continue to be rationalized by those running the table, because the difference between buying votes and giving the people what they want is very hard to pin down.

In this light, I see wokeism as a no-less-justifiable generational flex or cultural unionization as the boomers counter-culture revolution in the 60s.

It's Millennial time.

As a GenX, I feel like I have two friends that don't like each other because they are too similar.

Now they need to ban the burning of fossil fuels to charge them.

Residential solar and the ability to sell power needs to be ubiquitous. Otherwise power lost in transmission is going to increase CO2 with massive shift to EVs.

I wish it were openly acknowledged that Trump would have never been able to retain the US Presidency no matter what the outcome of Jan 6. Sure, he might have been President of a handful of red states for some time, but there's no way in hell that he would have been recognized as President of the 50 United States.

I often wonder if Trump got that far in his thinking.

I joined a tennis league that runs this month. I'm the only 2.5 player on the team of 3.0's and 3.5's. I'll be playing up as a 3.0 as they say. Here's hoping.

I approve this Pubski.

I was off-the-grid at the family cottage. It was quite literally a detox. I can feel my brain recalibrating after days unplugged. I have a love/hate relationship with the internet and technology. At this moment I resent my inbox and my phone and my computer. I feel like I am two different people: one that likes to code and keep up on the latest tech and imagine the future, and one that likes to tool around in the country and sauna and dip in the lake and read books and whittle. I do not like to mix the two.

I need to make Pubski a cron job before this time next year.

mk  ·  645 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Trump's criminal culpability

Every court rejected the claims based on lack of evidence, including judges appointed by Trump himself. Trumps's own AG Barr said his claims were bullshit as did Rosen who replaced him. Trump then tried to get Pence to reject the electors, and freaked when he wouldn't block the democratic transfer of power. Trump lost the election, and tried to stay President.

You can cruise conservative sites to justify your weak-minded membership to the cult of personality of an undemocratic orange ass clown grifter, but in the world of things as they are, that shit you eat stinks to high heaven.

Trump told them to march to the Capitol.

Fuck off and welcome back if you manage to break the spell.

    1) tribes gather at regular intervals to party, trade, fuck, dance, settle feuds and otherwise maintain the stability of individual tribes within a larger network of tribal culture

    2) Tribal gatherings grow unwieldy enough that they require management and support year-round

    3) year-round management and support requires agriculture and taxes

    4) year-round managers grow pointy hair, lord themselves over the hunter-gatherers

    5) Hunter-gatherers decide they're sick of the pointy-haired managers, call off civilization, convene next year's party somewhere else

mk  ·  737 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Paul Graham: Heresy

Recently, my daughter's school district apparently made the mistake of posting a picture on FB of three happy young girls, two braiding the thirds hair, without (gasp!!!) the qualifier that the girl who's hair was being braided had given consent. Why? Because she was black and her friends were white.

The school backpedaled and apologized for not addressing the micro-aggression one might assume without context.

These are actual adults, who in their mind, are deftly navigating heretical waters.

I can only hope that these three girls never were exposed to the school's apology and explanation, especially the young girl who in an effort to avoid heresy, they treated like a cultural artifact rather than a human being.

As GenX, I don't think we've had much more to say other than everyone fucks up in their own time. I don't hate on generations, except for the boomer's, but that's only natural given the relationship.
